Lebanon Rotary was chartered as Club Number 1042, on December 28, 1921. It was the first civic club organized to serve our community. Many others have followed.

That December, 23 Lebanon businessmen decided to invest their time and talents to create a local Rotary Club. They followed the lead of Dr. James Robert Bone and became charter members. Six of them would eventually serve as President of the club.

The club was, and is, motivated and guided by the international charge, “Service above self.  He profits most who serves best.”

Below are samples of documents and records from 1940 to 1949. Due presumably to the lead-up to World War II and America's declaration of war on Japan and Germany, no Rotary Club of Lebanon records are available for the 1940s.

The history of the Four-Way Test:

The Four-Way Test was written by Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 to help guide a failing company during the Great Depression. In 1943, it was officially adopted by Rotary International as part of Rotary’s ethical standards. At the 1943 Rotary International Convention, it was incorporated into Rotary’s constitutional documents following approval at the Rotary International Convention. In 1954, Herbert J. Taylor, then serving as President of Rotary International, transferred the copyright of the Four-Way Test to Rotary International.
